HyAfrica holds General Assembly in Maputo, Mozambique

The HyAfrica project held its annual General Assembly (GA) between 16 and 18 September 2024 in Maputo, Mozambique. In parallel a workshop for national stakeholders was also organized, taking advantage of the presence of the international project’s partners. The meeting and workshop were held and organized by the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) with the presence of the director of the Faculty of Sciences, Daúd Jamal. Luísa Maocha, director of the National Directorate of Geology and Mining (DNGM), also a HyAfrica partner also attended the meeting.

The workshop was attended by several governmental and private entities, such as the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) represented by Suzana Gomes, National Institute of Petroleum (INP) represented by Milton Zibane, Ministry of Energy (MMRE) of Togo represented by Aminata Boco Ba. The workshop, aimed at engaging stakeholders and raising awareness about natural hydrogen initiatives, was highly successful. Multiple Mozambican stakeholders committed to dedicated meetings and collaborations to advance the legal framework for natural hydrogen exploration and exploitation in the country.

The last day was reserved for a field trip, a visit to one of the study regions  in Mozambique. The activity was led by the Mozambique working group, including students who are developing their master’s and doctoral theses on the occurrence of natural hydrogen.

LEAP-RE is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy technologies and promoting their widespread adoption through innovative research and development. The partnership operates within the framework of science diplomacy, bringing African and European governments together around shared objectives in science and technology. LEAP-RE fosters a cooperative ecosystem through joint funding calls, institutional twinning, peer-to-peer exchange, capacity-building activities, stakeholder forums, and an online knowledge-sharing platform
