Throwback to the first LEAP-RE Renewable Energy School

The LEAP-RE Stakeholder Forum held in October 2022 in Pretoria witnessed our first Renewable Energy School. The aim of this blended Renewable Energy and Source School is to support the development of PhD Students, early career researchers and innovators or entrepreneurs who are part of the LEAP-RE community.

For four days, the RE-School gathered 25 students from Africa and Europe. This has been not only an opportunity to train the next generation of researchers but also to enable exchanges between students from both continents and a way to foster future collaborations.

Lecturers from LEAP-RE partners organisations Strathmore University (Kenya), Politecnico di Milano and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Italy), shared their methodologies and expertise, drawing upon some of the work performed in LEAP-RE, with a specific focus on the three following topics:

  • Data collection standards and tools
  • Energy modelling capacity and tools
  • Transversal socio-economic topics

The next edition of the RE-School is foreseen to take place during the first semester of 2023. Sign up to the LEAP-RE Newsletter to be informed!

The LEAP-RE consortium gathers 83 African and European partners covering a wide range of sectors: education/research, private sector, policy and funding. Together, they are building a long-term partnership of African and European stakeholders committed to fostering research and innovation for the development of renewable energy.
