HYAFRICA: Kick-off meeting of the project in Casablanca, Morocco.

The Kick-off meeting of the HyAfrica Project was held in Casablanca, Morocco from 15 to 16 September, 2022. This gathering allowed all the partners to meet and discuss the work to be carried out in the project, which aims to explore how natural hydrogen can be used as a solution for power supply in Africa.

The kickoff meeting in Morocco was also an opportunity for partners to engage in  field work and measure the concentration of natural Hydrogen in the Beni Slimane area. Assessing the resources of natural hydrogen in promising regions of the African countries involved in the project is indeed a very important step for HyAfrica, before going further in exploring the social-economic impact of natural hydrogen if deployed as an energy source for local communities.

Representatives from the ONHYM (Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines du Maroc) joined the HyAfrica team in the field trip and shared their experience in terms of natural hydrogen exploration.

The LEAP-RE consortium gathers 83 African and European partners covering a wide range of sectors: education/research, private sector, policy and funding. Together, they are building a long-term partnership of African and European stakeholders committed to fostering research and innovation for the development of renewable energy.
